    Open Day for WASH awareness campaign

    As part of the WASH awareness campaign launched last March in Palestinian Gatherings, we organized an open day last Thursday in Shabriha, Tyre, in partnership with our local partner NABAA. During the open day, children and their families visited six corners that tackled different WASH themes, including water conservation, personal hygiene, household and environmental hygiene, head lice and Scabies, food safety, and home accidents.

    Local actors from Beirut Southern Suburbs trained on crisis management and mediation

    Municipal council members, local NGOs representatives, representatives of municipal police departments, social workers, Heads and members of Social Development Centers from Al Chiyah, Harek Hreik, Furn El Chebbak, Al Ghbayri, Burj El Barajneh and Al Mrayjeh have participated together in the first cycle of a training organized by the UNDP “Peace Building in Lebanon” project on crisis management and mediation.

    Support to the Lebanese Army organizational development - Enhanced Technical Skills for the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Section

    The “Addressing Urban Hot Spots in Lebanon” project organized a 6 day training workshop in essentials of Project Management for LAF designated and non-designated CIMIC personnel from August 18th to 23rd 2014 at the Monroe Hotel, as part of UNDP’s continuous support to the Lebanese Army capacity building and organizational development.

    World Humanitarian Day ~ August 19 2014

    World Humanitarian Day marks the anniversary of the UN Headquarters bombing in Baghdad in 2003 when 22 people, including UN humanitarian veteran Sergio Vieria de Mello, lost their lives. It is a tribute to aid workers worldwide, a commemoration to those who have lost their lives and a celebration of the spirit of humanitarian work around the world.

    UNDP and UN-Habitat launch report on Palestinian Gatherings for better coordinated response

    In an effort to shed light on Palestinian Gatherings in Lebanon, UNDP and UN-Habitat launched last Tuesday their report “Profiling Deprivation: An Analysis of the Rapids Needs Assessment in Palestinian Gatherings Host Communities”. Hosted by the Lebanese Palestinian Dialogue Committee (LPDC) in the Grand Serail of Beirut, the launching brought together representatives of diplomatic communities, UN agencies, civil society actors, NGOs and academics.

    Japanese Ambassador visits Gaza Buildings Palestinian Gathering

    Lead by the Japanese Ambassador in Lebanon H.E. Seiichi Otsuka, a delegation representing the embassy of Japan in Lebanon visited Gaza Buildings, a Palestinian Gathering in Beirut, where the Government of Japan is co-funding a UNDP project to rehabilitate its water well and supply pipe networks, together with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

    Live Lebanon & BBAC provide generator for the village of Marwaheen

    The village of Marwaheen located in Tyr, South of Lebanon, inaugurated the provision of a generator for the village with the support of Goodwill Ambassador Mr Fadi Salameh and UNDP “Live Lebanon” initiative and in partnership with Bank of Beirut and Arab Countries (BBAC) at a ceremony held in the town hall in the presence of mayors, village chiefs and social actors.

    $4.5 million support towards Host communities and Refugees from Syria in Lebanon

    The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Beirut announced the donation of around $4.5 million from its Emergency Response Fund (ERF) targeting refugees from Syria and host communities in Lebanon during a press conference which took place on Wednesday August 6 2014 at the Ministry of Energy and Water.

    The Ministry of Environment at the Saida Dumpsite Rehabilitation Project

    On Saturday the 2nd of August 2014, during a visit to witness the progress of the various projects being implemented within the city of Saida, the Lebanese Minister of Environment Mr. Mohamad was impressed by the achievements made at the Rehabilitation of Saida Dumpsite Project. Accompanied by his advisor and the chief of the urban environment section, H.E. was joined by the UN Resident Representative Mr. Ross Mountain, the head of the municipal council, Mr. Mohammad Seoudi along with members from the municipality.

    Launching of the Green Roof at the Central Bank main branch in Hamra

    “Nearly 90% of the Lebanese population resides in cities across the country, with 0.8 square meter per person of green spaces available. The world health organization, however, recommends a minimum of 9 square meter of green space per person, and it is acknowledged that a city at an ideal standard would have between 10 – 15m² of green space per person. Green spaces have positive effect on people; they provide a great way to escape the stresses of day-to-day life, constitute a buffer to the surrounding noises and pollution, and increase value of real estate in surrounding areas
