Within the framework of “Addressing Urban Hot Spots in Lebanon” and “Improving Living conditions of Palestinian Gatherings in Lebanon” projects, UNDP and UN-Habitat held a ceremony to highlight achievements and experiences of local communities in Beirut and Saida. The ceremony was held on April 11 at Makassed University in Beirut.

The Minister of Economy and Trade Dr. Alain Hakim headed the Steering Committee of Lebanon Recovery Fund (LRF) meeting in the Grand Serail in the presence of the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Mr. Ross Mountain, Director General of the Ministry of Finance and its representative, Alain Bifany, Spain's Ambassador, Milagros Hernando, Chairman of the Council for Development and Reconstruction, Eng. Nabil El-Jisr in addition to a number of experts.

The ongoing conflict in Syria has caused close to one million people to flee to neighbouring Lebanon. In a country with a population of little over 4 million, this influx is threatening the already existing infrastructure, and putting enormous pressure on social services, such as healthcare.

Under the High Patronage of the Army Commander in Chief, the United Nations Development Programme project “Addressing Urban Host Spots in Lebanon” in partnership with the Lebanese Army launched a ceremony for equipping four centers with medical equipment intended for the poor and the most vulnerable in Beirut area: Mazraa, Tariq El Jdidi, Sabra and Burj Abi Haidar. The ceremony was held on Tuesday February 18th at the Central Military Club – Beirut.

The Lebanese Ministry of Environment in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme held an award ceremony on Thursday December 19, 2013 for eight Lebanese private institutions that have successfully audited, reported and communicated their respective Greenhouse Gas emissions. This reporting comes as response to the Minister of Environment’s Decision 99/1, dated 11/4/2013, where companies used the internationally adopted Greenhouse Gas Protocol through V4 advisors to report their emissions of the year 2012.

In November 2013, 70 public school teachers from North Lebanon and Bekaa region returned home with valuable conflict transformation and peace building skills and techniques.
