Enhancing capacities of public and private institutions working in the fields of development and finance
The Ministry of Environment in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme organized a training on “Climate Finance”, aiming at enhancing capacities of public and private institutions working in the fields of development and finance. The event took place on Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 July 2014 at Rotana Gefinor Hotel, and was delivered by the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management.

UNDP - CEDRO project and Banque Du Liban (BDL) launched the Green Roof initiative which covers an area of 834 m2, at the Central bank main branch in Hamra on June 30th at 5:00 pm. Governor of Lebanon's Central Bank (Banque du Liban) Riad Salameh along with UNDP Resident Representative Ross Mountain attended the event in addition to UNDP country Director Luca Renda and Assistant Resident Representative Edgard Chehab.

Within the framework of joint efforts between the Lebanese government and the UNDP to reduce the risk of disasters and increase awareness among all segments of society on disasters, a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) training was held in the University of St. Joseph (USJ) on June 26th and 27th, 2014 in cooperation with the Civil Defense, the Lebanese army and the Lebanese Red Cross.

UNDP’s Live Lebanon Initiative in partnership with BBAC launched a project aimed at equipping Beni Sakher Public School in Wadi Khaled, North Lebanon with the support of Goodwill Ambassador Mrs. Bouran Boueiry. The ceremony was held at the school attended by representatives from the UNDP and BBAC along with a number of professors.

The launch of irrigation canals in Beshwet with the support of a new development project for “Live Lebanon” and BBAC
The municipality of Beshwet inaugurated a project to construct irrigation canals with the support of Goodwill Ambassador Mr. Fadi Salameh and the UNDP’s “Live Lebanon" initiative in partnership with Bank of Beirut and the Arab Countries (BBAC) and in collaboration with the Association of Cooperatives in Deir El-Ahmar, in a ceremony held in Saydet Beshwet Church in the presence of heads of municipalities and mayors in addition to political, religious and social figures.

British Ambassador to Lebanon Tom Fletcher visited south Lebanon where he saw first-hand the UK-funded municipalities Host Communities Programme, implemented by UNDP. The programme will support municipalities to increase delivery of livelihood services in areas of Lebanon most affected by the Syrian refugee influx.

The Minister of Economy and Trade Dr. Alain Hakim headed the Steering Committee of Lebanon Recovery Fund (LRF) meeting in the Grand Serail in the presence of the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Mr. Ross Mountain, Director General of the Ministry of Finance and its representative, Alain Bifany, Spain's Ambassador, Milagros Hernando, Chairman of the Council for Development and Reconstruction, Eng. Nabil El-Jisr in addition to a number of experts.

The ongoing conflict in Syria has caused close to one million people to flee to neighbouring Lebanon. In a country with a population of little over 4 million, this influx is threatening the already existing infrastructure, and putting enormous pressure on social services, such as healthcare.
