Increase Vaccination coverage for children from 31% to 95% in Deir AmarJan 30, 2009
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Italian Embassy, in cooperation with the Municipality of Deir Amar, launched the Health clinic in Deir Amar on 30 January 2009 under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mohammad Jawad Khalifeh, Minister of Public Health
The launching ceremony took place in the municipality of Deir Amar in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Ghemraoui, Chairman of Public Health Unit in North Lebanon representing H.E. the Minister of Public Health Dr. Mohammad Jawad Khalifeh; Ms. Marta Ruedas UNDP Resident Representative, H.E Mr. Gabriele Checchia, Ambassador of Italy in Lebanon, Mr. Ahmad Eid, Mayor of Deir Amar Municipality, and Dr. Hassan Eid, Director of the health Center and a large number people from Deir Amar and the surrounding municipalities.
In the framework of UNDP’s project “Early Recovery of Nahr-El Bared surrounding municipalities”, this primary health care center, funded by the Italian Embassy, will provide quality health services to the population of Deir Amar and the surrounding areas (Beddawi, Bhnine, Minnieh, and Muhammara).
“The region went through the most dramatic events, and its reconstruction needs to be based on an integrated approach, which takes into account the needs and expectations of both the Palestinian refugees in the camps and those of the inhabitants of neighboring Lebanese municipalities who have also suffered from the summer 2007 events” said H.E Mr. Gabriele Checchia in his speech.
As for Ms. Marta Ruedas, she stressed on the progress made in the Nahr El Bared surrounding municipalities through the recovery interventions, such as infrastructure projects, livelihoods interventions, on-going capacity building of municipal authorities, rubble removal in NBC, youth activities and Lebanese-Palestinian dialogue initiatives…
Dr. Mohammed Ghemraoui talked about the needs of the Menieh region on all levels. He also asked to join efforts to the recovery of this region in order to offer the necessary services especially the medical ones.
Located in the municipality building, the clinic has a dental clinic and three medical examining rooms with one reserved for emergency care, a laboratory and a pharmacy. The core services to be provided are related to the child and antenatal and women care at low prices and free vaccination for children, in order to increase vaccination coverage for children from 31 % to 95 %
