Inauguration Ceremony of the First Civil-Military Cooperation Offices in Shukri Ghanem barracks
The Lebanese Army organized the inauguration ceremony of the Civil- Military Cooperation Offices (CIMIC) within the project entitled “Addressing Urban Hot Spots in Lebanon” as a token of appreciation to the UN country team throughout the support provided to the Civil-Military Cooperation efforts, held in the Shukri Ghanem barracks, in Fayadieh, Baabda, The Army Commander, General Jean Kahwaji as well as UNDP Country Director Mr. Luca Renda and representatives of UNIFIL and UNSCOL attended the ceremony.
The establishment of the new Lebanese Army CIMIC offices comes as a result of an ongoing collaboration between the Lebanese Army and the United Nations. The UN Country Team supported the development of institutional CIMIC requirements in the Lebanese Army throughout the Peace Building Fund Programme,
The existing collaboration between the Lebanese Army and the UNDP in partnership with the UNIFIL, OHCHR and UNSCOL has to date resulted in the following key achievement: the development and endorsement of a National CIMIC as well as a Community Outreach Strategy.
During the ceremony, the attendees expressed their gratitude for the social and humanitarian initiatives lead by the UN organizations in collaboration with the Lebanese army.
