The Outreach and Civic Engagement Unit at the Lebanese American University (LAU), in partnership with the UN Information Centre in Beirut, organized the "Outreach and Cultural Exchange Across Nations" Day which was held on Beirut campus on April 24th 2014.

In addition to UNIC, nine UN agencies participated in the event: ESCWA, UNDP, UNHR, UNIFIL, UNICEF, FAO, WHO  and UNRWA  along with Embassy representatives from, Brazil, Canada, U.S., UK, Chile, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Holland, Mexico, Russia and Sweden.

This activity, which carries the theme "Towards a global civil society”, aimed at shedding the light on the role of cultural exchange in promoting understanding between peoples and thus building world peace. It also intended to inform university students about opportunities to study abroad, as well as to acquaint them with the role and activities of the different United Nations organizations.

During the opening ceremony, UN humanitarian and Resident coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Ross Mountain gave a speech in which he said, “LAU & UN collaboration is evidence of the University’s commitment to encourage and empower its students to reach out and become agents of constructive change in their society. It is also evidence of the power of small acts to affect significant outcomes.”
