Disaster Risk Reduction training in USJ

Within the framework of joint efforts between the Lebanese government and the UNDP to reduce the risk of disasters and increase awareness among all segments of society on disasters, a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) training was held in the University of St. Joseph (USJ) on June 26th and 27th, 2014 in cooperation with the Civil Defense, the Lebanese army and the Lebanese Red Cross.

The training aims at raising awareness and building the capacity of students and staff at the universities regarding good practices in the field of disaster risk reduction so that they can be fully ready and prepared in the event of any disaster.

In the end of this training session, certificates were handed over to participants in the presence of UNDP DRR Project Manager at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Mrs Nathalie Zaarour, USJ General Secretary, Dr Fouad Maroun, and the national programs coordinator from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Mrs Dalia Al-Laqis.

This training session was characterized by its seriousness and the commitment of all stakeholders in the university to preparing for disasters, raising awareness among administrators and students as well as contributing to making a stronger society in the face of disaster.
