After organizing the “#LookAroundYou” photography competition for the youth living in Lebanon aged between 16 and 32 regardless of nationality to highlight the importance of the SDGs (Related to ending poverty, injustice and inequality and protecting the environment),  the winners have finally been selected and they came to receive their prizes from Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon, Mr. Philippe Lazzarini, on the 1st of June, 2017.

165 photos were received and after 3 selection processes in the presence of 3 professional photographers from Dar Al Moussawir, 3 winners were selected:

Hisham Jalloul won first place and claimed his Cannon 5D Mark 3 professional camera. Hisham captured a beautiful moment of a Syrian child in a refugee camp with a smile on his face, showing a true glimpse of hope even in the toughest circumstances. It falls under SDGs 1: No Poverty and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.

Khaled Taleb came in second place and won an iPhone 7 Plus, for his photo that captured an agriculture field wonderfully reflecting a thriving environmental scene in Akkar and a possibility for food security. His photo falls under SDG 2: No Hunger.

Hassan Jardali, in third place. He won a 300$ voucher from Virgin Megastore, succeeded in taking a black and white photo of a solar powered street light on the Old Saida waterfront, falling under SDG 7: Renewable Energy and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.

The aim of the contest was to inspire people to start thinking of development in Lebanon and take action to achieve the 17 SDGs in the coming years. These three winners were able to capture something in their surrounding that reflects one or more of the SDGs and succeeded in putting a face to the SDGs and demonstrated belief in a more sustainable future for Lebanon. The contest targeted youth residing in Lebanon and asked them to capture something in their surrounding that reflects one or more of the SDGs.
