LEBANESE ARMY THANK YOU CEREMONY FOR UNDP SUPPORT TO CIVIL-MILITARY COOPERATION SECTION IN SOUTH LEBANON

Project Background: The Addressing Urban Hot Spots in Lebanon project is an initiative that aims to reduce and mitigate inter and intra communal tensions, as well as potential outbreaks or escalation of violence at the local level in conflict prone areas.

 

WHAT: The Lebanese Army is organizing a ceremony to thank UNDP’s efforts and support to its civil-military cooperation intervention in Ain Ebel, South Lebanon through the procurement of a high end medical stress test cardioline machine (cardiology) to be delivered to Al Inaya Hospital in Ain Ebel, Bent Jbeil, South Lebanon.

WHY The ceremony’s objective is to thank UNDP for the support provided to the CIMIC section under the Addressing Urban Hot Spots in Lebanon project in general and specifically for the support to its community outreach intervention in Bent Jbeil, South Lebanon.

This CIMIC intervention in South Lebanon will benefit residents of Bent Jbeil area from various confessions and Lebanese communities, specifically the villages of Ain Ebel, Debel, Rmaysh, Awzah, Bent Jbeil, Attiri, Hanine, and Aytaroun, all the above mentioned villages being located in a radius of 3KM from Al Inaya Hospital. The number of residents of the area varies from 15,000 in winter time to 30,000 during summer.

This intervention will also serve the Syrian refugees present in all these villages and who will benefit from cardiology medical assistance at the hospital that is managed by the Tyre Archbishop and in coordination with the Ain Ebel municipality.

The existing collaboration between the Lebanese Army and the UNDP in partnership with the UNIFIL and OHCHR has to date resulted in achieving:

o Development and endorsement of a National CIMIC and Community Outreach strategy incorporating Human Rights; along with the five year action plan

o Capacity development in CMR/CIMIC for Lebanese Army officers

o Rehabilitation and equipment of the CIMIC section HQ offices in Fayadieh, Baabda

o Support to pilot CIMIC community outreach activities in Beirut
