Coordination Meeting at the PCM puts Lebanon’s Economic Vision and Policy Road Map in MotionSep 1, 2016
As part of the undertaken efforts to prepare the Draft II of the National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS), the Team of UNDP Project “Enhancing Decision Making Capacity at the Office of the President of the Council of Ministers”, led by the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisor, Dr. Shady Karam, met on Thursday September 25th, 2016 with representatives from all ministries.
The Ministries’ Focal Points, previously assigned by each Ministry to coordinate with and assist UNDP’s PCM Team for the sake of the NSDS Document, were present, in addition to the Directors General of Justice, Finance and the Central Administration for Statistics (CAS), and the Advisors to a number of other Ministers. Dr. Karam briefed the audience about the finalized NSDS Draft I, as well as the prepared Database that serves as a stock-taking Tool of all relevant Policies/Strategies/Legal Texts found at ministries and official administrations, as well as a mapping Tool for NSDS’ Chapters and Strategic Goals with UN SDGs. The next step will be to conduct, during the Third Quarter of 2016, one-on-one meetings with each Ministry to ensure active participation of all in the Draft II of the NSDS and the related Database.
The NSDS project started a year ago as an initiative, led by the PM Economic Advisor and the UNDP PCM team, to lay down the foundation of an Economic Vision and a Country Policy Road Map for 2025. This vision is destined to capitalize on Lebanon’s Human Resources in older to solder national cohesion and grow the Lebanese economy and shield it from political instability, to become and remain a significant player in the Levant and MENA business environment.
