Training Polling Officials for the Tripoli by elections

May 13, 2019

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through the Lebanese Elections Assistance Project (LEAP), funded by the European Union Delegation to Lebanon, supported the Ministry of Interior and Muncipalities - Directorate General for Political Affairs and Refugees, to develop and conduct 8 training sessions for 730 polling officials on the 4th and 5th of April 2019 in Beirut.

The sessions were conducted by two UNDP trainers’ experts in electoral procedures.  The Directorate General of Political Affairs and Refugees, Mrs. Faten Younes, attended and supervised the training providing guidance for the conduct of the by-elections.

The trainers explained and presented all stages of the electoral procedures starting with the receipt of ballot boxes and electoral materials, opening of the polling station for voting, to the ballot counting procedures in the polling stations, filling in the tally sheets, announcing the temporary results and packing the materials.

Polling officers mentioned that the training was very beneficial since it helped them understand and remember the electoral procedures.

UNDP LEAP also developed, designed and printed the training manual and visuals which served as a reference tool to polling officials on E-Day.
